Associate Transportation Planner position- Wilmington, NC

The City of Wilmington, NC and Wilmington MPO are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to work in a progressive team-oriented environment as an Associate Transportation Planner within the dynamic Development Services Department.

The successful candidate for this position will have demonstrated experience in providing transportation planning-related information for multi-model transportation initiatives that should include short and long-range planning for highway, bicycle, pedestrian and transit. This position will also be responsible for preparing and presenting maps and technical memoranda, and conducting public input meetings. The duties also include providing research data, analysis, and reporting in support of the programs and projects of both the City of Wilmington and the Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). This planning position is a significant contributor in the development of corridor studies, small area plans, collector street plans, bicycle, pedestrian and transit planning efforts. This successful candidate will also supervise the Transportation Demand Management Coordinator and Project Coordinator for the NC Physical Activity in the Built Environment Policy Initiative.

Must be able to communicate results of research and analysis to technical staff, public officials, and the general public in both written and oral formats. Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or related field and 2 years of professional level planning experience (transportation planning principles and applications) required. Valid NC driver’s license required. Must have experience using Word and Excel and other typical office applications and should have familiarity with ArcGIS, Access, PowerPoint and TransCadd programs. Experience with a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is preferred. DRIVING HISTORY CHECK REQUIRED. Currently accepting applications through Nov. 5, 2010 at 5:00pm.
