Walter Hood is a Professor at the University of California, Berkeley’s Landscape Architecture and Environmental Design Department, and chaired from 1998 to 2002. His studio, Hood Design, is committed to the design and construction of communities: landscapes where inhabitants share physical, social, political and economic resources collectively. This multidimensional context forces the development of powerful sculpted expressions that explore site specific social and environmental processes. Landscapes emerge as improvised acts; a familiar context reshaped into something new. Walter hasapplied his unique approach to the design of urban landscapes across the United States; from the green street and plaza for Center Street in Berkeley, CA, to the Greenprint urban landscape vision for the Hill District in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
